Measurement of cholesterol in tissues with phospho-6-tungstic-12-molybdic acid.

چکیده
A new spectrophotometric method for the determination of minute amounts of cholesterol in tissues is described. This method is a modification of the Yoshimatsu reaction which is basedon the reduction of the yellow aqueoussolution of phospho-6tungstic-12-molybdic acid by a solution of cholesterol in concentrated sulfuric acid. The color of the resulting hydrosol of “molybdenum/tungsten blue” is particularly intense. The conditions for saponification confer virtual specificity for cholesterol. The proposed method is verified by comparison with estimates obtained by Abell’s procedure (9) as well as by the automated methodologyof Block et a! (8).

The Use of Molybdic Acid as a Precipitant for Blood Proteins
During the many years that tungstic acid has been employed as a precipitant for blood proteins, as suggested by Folin and Wu, the method has met with practically no criticism and has probably been one of the most widely employed processes used in biochemistry. It is, however, well to have more than a single method of procedure available in connection with special problems which may arise, so we...

Some time ago a brief report (1) was made on the use of the Pulfrich photometer for the determination of sulfhydryl and disulfide compounds by a modified Folin (2) method. Since then the method has been extensively used in this laboratory (3-9). Folin’s method is based upon the observation that cystine plus sulfite gives a blue color with phospho-18-tungstic acid; whereas cystine alone develops...

A simple and mild one-pot three-component reaction for the preparation 1,4-dihydropyridines has been developed from various aldehyde substrates, 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds (dimedone) and ammonium acetate (Hantzsch method) in the presence of a catalytic amount of phospho sulfonic acid (PSA) as an efficient and heterogeneous solid acid in EtOH at room temperature. Preparation of PSA is straightforw...
